Their Story.
The Hill Family have extraordinary faith in God and are faced with extraordinary challenges. We are here to support them as Kevin Hill continues to battle cancer. You can read their amazing story on their blog.
Their Story
Kevin works in IT and Rachel is a stay-at-home mom and free lance photographer. Kevin and Rachel met and married in Los Angles,CA where they had their first child, Jude. They moved to the outskirts of Atlanta to live with Rachel's parents, where they had their second child Evie. Soon after, they moved into a challenged neighborhood in Atlanta called Adair Park - where their desire is to have impact for the Kingdom of God.
As they were closing on their home, Kevin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of melanoma, stage 3. Since then Kevin has had 3 surgeries, 6 weeks of radiation, 6 weeks of intensive immunotherapy and was in the process of completing 12 months of a less intensive immunotheraphy regime - when his cancer recurred and moved to his liver. Since then he has undergone IL-2 treatments that were very intense, but ineffective. He was enrolled in a drug trial at UCLA for 3 months that seemed to slow the growth of cancer cells, but was ultimately also ineffective. After complications from treatment affecting his liver, and a period of Vemurafenib treatment, Kevin completed a drug trial, TIL therapy, at the NIH in Bethesda, MD. Unfortunately, even the TIL trial was ineffective given that the doctors had to reverse the effects of the trial to save Kevin's life. Kevin is back on Vemurafenib, will undergo radiation surgery to blast a brain tumor, and is researching other available trails.
Kevin took his last breaths and joined his Lord and Savior at 6:00 am EST Christmas Eve. He was surrounded by love and had a peaceful last few days at home. You can read the blog entry of his final moments here.
